Outdoor Sculpture Competition 2011-12
Our 2011-12 Outdoor Sculpture Competition is now closed. Click here to view the sculptures selected for the 2011-12 exhibit. For your reference, details of the 2011-12 competition are listed below.The cities of Bristol, TN/VA, are accepting submissions from sculptors for our sixth Outdoor Sculpture Competition. Up to ten works will be selected for a one-year exhibition in downtown Bristol, TN/VA. A $1000 stipend will be awarded to each of the artists chosen.
Entry Guidelines:
Artists must be 18 years of age or older.
Work must be
• Original.
• Three-dimensional.
• Suitable for outdoor installation and able to be structurally secured to a concrete pad.
• Capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions and high traffic areas and safe for children.
• Suitable for family viewing.
Works deemed unsafe, overly fragile, or otherwise unsuitable will not be considered for the exhibition.
Size Limitations: No work can exceed 15 feet in height or weigh more than 500 pounds without prior approval.
Entry Instructions:
A non-refundable fee of $15 enables artists to submit up to three entries. Make check or money order payable to Art in Public Places.
Each artist must submit a maximum of three high resolution digital photographs detailing alternate views for each entry. Images must be in jpeg format and can be emailed to submissions@aippbristol.org. Artists must submit the title, size, materials used, and listed insurance price of each piece entered. Each artist must also submit a high resolution photograph of him- or herself, a short biography, his or her website URL (if applicable), and an explanatory statement about each sculpture submitted.

Additional Information:
Sculptures will be insured by the cities of Bristol, TN/VA, for the duration of the exhibit. The cities of Bristol, TN/VA, will provide heavy equipment and personnel to facilitate installation on site where needed. Sales of sculptures are actively encouraged. A 20% commission will go to Art in Public Places on all works sold as a result of the exhibit. All sculptures must remain on site during the one-year period of display. Artists will be notified no later than June 15th, 2011 if their work has been selected.
Artist responsibilities (if work is chosen):
• Artist must be present during installation of sculpture and at the evening reception.
• Artist must also allow use of his or her likeness and biographical information for publicity purposes by Art in Public Places.
• Transportation arrangements are the responsibility of the artist.
2011 Juror: Lorelei Stewart
Lorelei Stewart is Director of Gallery 400 at the University of Illinois at Chicago where over the last ten years she has curated numerous group exhibitions and organized over 30 individual artists projects, including new commissions for a wide variety of Chicago artists and large-scale one-person exhibitions for national artists. In 2005 and 2006 she organized the performance and exhibition project Edgar Arceneaux: The Alchemy of Comedy...Stupid, which was supported by a Joyce Award and exhibited in the 2008 Whitney Biennial. Stewart is the interim director and a faculty member of the Museum Studies graduate program at UIC. She has previous experience at institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; inSITE2000 San Diego/Tijuana; and New Langton Arts, San Francisco.
